Gambling company sponsorship of football – What should be done?

The Gambling Commission (GC) has announced that it is working with the Competition and Markets Authority to make sure that online gambling companies bring their promotions and offers into line with consumer protection law. This looks as if it mainly means that the conditions that apply to their offers and promotions are clear and transparent which they have not always been. But of course this doesn’t stop companies marketing their gambling products aggressively by hounding players continually with offers of various kinds. There is a lot more on this issue on the GC website. The GC is now asking everyone concerned, including players and members of the general public, to tell them what they think about online gambling ‘marketing and advertising, unfair terms, complaints and disputes’. People who are having problems with gambling and their family members are regularly posting comments on the Gambling Watch UK website complaining about these sorts of issues. So this is a chance to tell the Gambling Commission what you really think about this.

I'm a little confused with this. The GC's own rules (known as the LCCP) clearly stipulate what is and isn't allowed with marketing. In simple terms- if you have asked a company to self-exclude/have told them you have a problem with gambling, then they are forbidden to target you (after a fair period of say two weeks). These rules clearly state that the licence holder is responsible for any third party/affiliate issuing this marketing on their behalf also. Each and every time you receive an unwanted piece of marketing communication from a licence holder that you're previously excluded with, they are breaching the LCCP. So my response to the GC is why don't you just uphold the rules that are already in print?

I read in https://www.resumesservicesreview.com/careerperfect-com-review/ that while gambling is a sport, people can still have the tendency to overdo it. This is why I believe that it should be regulated in order to protect people from harming themselves. Casinos and other gambling agencies are legal to the full extent of the law, but there should be a safety net for all those who participate in it. Not everyone can control themselves, and not everyone can protect themselves as well.

I support what Liky wrote. Gambling advertising should be banned, at least daytime. It encourages more and more people to gamble, putting their health, lifes and families at risk. In addition, online gambling marketing is so aggresive... I often have the feeling like being forced to open some website, but of course there are other reasons for that as well. Anyway, please don't let gambling services promote so broadly.

Peter
